Attributes of LOVE
Do you know people who think more of themselves than maybe they ought to?
Confession time…
Been there done that…
As a parent, as a partner, as an employee, and an employer…
I have found myself in situations where I expressed “It was my way or the highway…. “
Allow me to clearly state “This does not mean we shouldn’t or can’t have healthy boundaries.” Boundaries had little to do with it. It was purely a control issue.
Maybe born out of a sense of entitlement? Privilege?
I am still learning.
Boundaries are important. Some, if not all of us have difficulty setting boundaries and my experience leads me to believe the difficulty is born of an incongruent sense of self.
I don’t want to offend anyone, or I don’t deserve to stand up for myself.
More on this latter but I wonder how much of our inability to set boundaries is centered in our desire to hide, or deal with shame. Anyway, like I said, more on this another time.
A sense of entitlement gets us into trouble when we think more of ourselves than the evidence of our lives reflects.
Jesus approached life from a place of servanthood…
His kindness and compassion are well documented and His honesty and truthfulness, particularly with the religious elite of the day, helped make the point it is unfair to have one standard for some and not live to that same standard.
Most can recall the story of Jesus flipping over tables in the temple. He was angry people were being taken advantage of in the name of God and profiting from the manipulation in the name of sacredness.
Or the story of how the leaders wouldn’t support their own parents because they had already promised that money to God – again, manipulating their position and power over others.
Honestly, we can probably all admit we’ve been caught with our hand in the cookie jar and then tried to cast attention somewhere else.

The beauty of a new day dawning is a testament to hope and a new opportunity to begin again.
