Puts up with anything?
There are limits aren’t there?
Physical abuse…
Lying, stealing, murder…
Disrespect, manipulation…
A family drag show in Memphis, TN was canceled at the last minute recently because of armed protesters showing up. The venue decided “in an abundance of caution” to cancel the event rather than risk harm to anyone in attendance.
Right or wrong, that was their choice. They valued safety and security above confrontation and the risk of harm.
Some Performers and attendees, saw this as kowtowing to armed terrorists. When the likes of the Proud Boys showed up I’m sure most were getting nervous. It only takes one small trigger for the whole thing to get out of control.
Where is the LOVE in this circumstance?
I like reading different versions of Bible translations. The nuance of the terms used, add so much. Another version of this same section in the LOVE chapter says Love always protects.
There seems to be a wide berth between LOVE puts up with anything and Love always protects.
I’ve been in those circumstances where the actions people were taking didn’t align with how I thought I should be treated. And regretfully, there are times where I haven’t treated or acted how another person deserved.
From my understanding, the LOVE chapter is more about relationships than anything else.
I wish I could say I had it all figured out. I will soon be celebrating 32 years of marriage with my wife and partner.
I know there are days we get on each other’s nerves and yet, I would do most anything to protect her and keep her safe. I’m also inclined to put up with anything as she is with me.
We aren’t the same person. Yes, we finish each other’s sentences sometimes and our communication is better today than it’s probably ever been, and we are different. We like many of the same things and we like different things.
We’re both getting a little older now. We don’t move and do like we used to. We have more aches and pains and yet the rhythm we’ve created between us is comfortable.
We’re past the point of trying to change each other – maybe that’s the accepting part of LOVE.
God knows each of us and accepts us for who we are, no matter where we are in life. I don’t have to do anything to be worthy of LOVE and acceptance.
As much as I try, I don’t LOVE with that level of completeness. It’s something I aspire to, knowing I will likely never get there. What’s the point of trying you ask?
Life on this journey is worth it because people are worth it – you are worth it, and I want you to know that. No action required…
